ViCon Update – How you keep viflow up to date

Applies to: viflow (subscription | 9 | 8 | 7) | Article: 1342738 | Updated on 21.05.2024

To ensure that you always work with the current version of viflow and can access the latest functions and error corrections, we strongly recommend installing program updates on a regular basis.
The update can be carried out either via the ViCon Update program or by manual installation of the individual update installation files.

Tip! Is "ViCon Update" installed?

In the case of administrative viflow installations, it is possible that the ViCon Update program was not installed automatically.
To check this, simply call up our ››› update catalog and click on the I'm not sure whether ViCon update is installed already? link.

Update using the "ViCon Update" program

The ViCon Update program is installed together with viflow and can be called up via the Windows Start menu under All Programs.

Configure "ViCon Update"

If viflow was installed in the default configuration, the ViCon Update program will regularly search for updates and update all installed ViCon products in the background.

However, you can also configure ViCon Update manually or check the settings:

  1. Start ViCon Update via the Windows start menu.
  2. When you start or click on Updates {{1}}, the program searches for available updates and displays them in window {{2}}.
  3. For more information on available updates, click View details {{3}}.
  4. If necessary, start the installation by clicking on Install {{4}}.
  5. If you click on Settings {{5}}, you can set/check whether updates should be searched for automatically and installed directly or whether (and when) you should be informed before the installation {{6}}.
  6. If you want to switch off the automatic check for updates (not recommended!), activate the option Never check for updates {{7}}.
  7. If you are using a proxy server , enter the address and port here {{8}}.
  8. Under Update source {{9}} you can see the current source of the updates.

Proxy server and update source

Please contact your administrator for the necessary access data when using a proxy server {{8}}.

Only change the update source {{9}} after consulting your administrator or ViCon Support.

Exit the programs before updating

Please close all programs to be updated before installing the update.

Otherwise it can happen that the updates that have been made are displayed but are not yet effective. If you are not sure whether the programs were running during the update, please restart the respective PCs/servers.

Configure ViCon update via group policy

Note for system administrators:

ViCon Update can also be configured via group policy. You can find the template for this in the ViCon Update program directory in the Policies subfolder. The program directory of ViCon Update can be found here:

  • 64-bit systems: C:\Programs (x86)\ViCon\Update\041\Policies
  • 32-bit systems: C:\Programs\Vicon\Update\041\Policies

32 or 64 bit?

Please note that the software packages to be installed and complete installation files must match the Visio version used – 32 or 64 bit!

The use of the files in 32 or 64 bit ONLY depends on the Visio version used – NOT on the operating system!

Selection and download of updates (*.msi)

  1. First check the viflow version you are using. To do this, start viflow and click on File – Help.
  2. Click the Additional version and copyright information {{1}} link.
  3. In the Information window, read the version number and bit version (32 or 64 bit) {{2}}.
In this example: viflow 8.0.4007 in 64 bit.
  4. In the browser, open the ››› update catalog at ››› update.viflow.de/en.  Check whether a higher version than the one you are using is available in the update list.In this example, an update is available with version 8.0.4039 {{3}}.
  5. Start downloading the MSI file by clicking on the corresponding link {{4}}.
  6. You can see all the details and changes of each update by clicking on the link with KB number {{5}}.
  7. Exit viflow and install the downloaded update package (MSI file).
    If necessary, contact your administrator.

Installing multiple updates

The individual update packages build on each other. For example, if two updates are available, the update with the lower version number must be installed first.

If you have multiple updates, it can be easier and faster if you download and install the full installation package.

All installations at the same level

If you use several viflow licenses – especially if you use "viflow Team Modeling" – all viflow applications must be on the same level.

Otherwise there may be incompatibilities between the individual clients and errors or malfunctions in the process model and in the HTML version (WebModel).
