FAQs - Switching to the subscription version of viflow

viflow can be purchased either as a subscription or as a purchase. If you switch from a purchase version – for example viflow 8 – to the subscription version of viflow, a few points must be observed, as there are not only technical differences between the versions, but also different system requirements.

Please note the following points before switching to viflow (subscription)

Are there any changes in the system requirements?

Compared to the current purchase version viflow 8, viflow (subscription) requires a different software environment for displaying the WebModel. The Windows Hosting Bundle version 6.0 (or .NET Core 6.0) is now required on the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) we recommend.

Installation and licensing – what needs to be considered?

Requires new installation and activation

An existing viflow purchase version (e.g. viflow 8) cannot be converted into a subscription version or activated for one.

Therefore, the viflow subscription version must be reinstalled on the system and then activated for the users.

Installation of the subscription version

The installation procedure has not changed compared to the viflow purchase version. You will receive the download link for the installation file for the subscription version from us.

Activation of the licenses

There are no differences to the viflow purchase version when activating the viflow licenses.

What's new in viflow (subscription)?

There are some new features to be discovered in the subscription version of viflow, here are just a few examples:

The names of the structure and folder views of the viflow objects have been adjusted, unsaved changes in graphics and objects that are in the recycle bin are marked, a warning appears if processes are open at the same time in Team Modeling, and the WebModel can now be (!) be configured for the export.

What happens to the previously installed viflow (purchase) license?

If you previously used viflow 8 as a purchase version, you can use this version for 6 months parallel to viflow (subscription). After this period, your viflow purchase version will be deactivated and can no longer be used.

No mixed operation of purchase and subscription version

Please note that the process model files (*.vfpx or database) of the viflow purchase and subscription versions are not compatible (see next question). Therefore, you cannot work on a process model with both versions at the same time.

Are the process models of the purchase and subscription versions compatible?

viflow process model files are always "upwards compatible", which means that the new version can convert the files from the previous version into the new format. Process models created with viflow 8 can therefore be opened and edited with the subscription version of viflow – the reverse is not possible!

Process models from viflow (subscription) cannot be opened with the viflow purchase version

If a process model has been opened and saved in viflow (subscription), it can no longer be opened in the previous version (e.g. viflow 8)!

What do I have to consider when using viflow cloud for the WebModel?

Nothing has changed here in the subscription version, use viflow cloud as you have done before.

What must be considered with the addons – viflow tracker and viflow easy plan?

Are you already using viflow tracker?

In this case there is not much to consider, viflow tracker works both with the purchase version of viflow (8) and with the new subscription version viflow (subscription).

Are you already using viflow easy plan?

This case is a bit more complicated, since an upgrade of viflow easy plan may be required here.
