Diagnostics, Logging and Event Viewer for viflow

Applies to: viflow (supscription | 9 | 8 | 7) | Article: 1664439 | Updated on 13.05.2024

There are some tools in viflow and Windows that can be very helpful when troubleshooting. In viflow you can set this in the options, in Windows the event viewer helps with troubleshooting.

Diagnostic options in viflow

In viflow you can separately activate the logging of events and the transmission of usage statistics:

Logging

If this option is activated, the individual events in the program are saved in a log file. This data helps to identify and correct errors that occur.

  1. Open the Options window via the viflow menu File – Options – Diagnostics.
  2. Under Logging, enable Activate Logging

Transmission of log files

Delete

Logging active 24 hours

Logging is only ever active for 24 hours. If you want to send a log file for error analysis, enable logging and repeat the steps that led to the error.

The log files (text document with the file extension*.log) are saved in the following directory: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\ViCon\ViFlow

For the analysis, please send us the "up-to-date" log file.

Usage Statistics

  1. Open the Options window via the viflow menu File – Options – Diagnostics.
  2. Under Usage Statistics, Allow viflow to send this data to ViCon.
  3. Now [SHIFT]-click the text block under Usage Statistics to view the Telemetry ID.

Transmission of Usage Statistics

The usage data and reports are automatically and anonymously transmitted to ViCon GmbH – we only need your telemetry ID to be able to assign the data.

Diagnostic options in Windows / on the webserver

With certain error patterns, it can happen that we have to take a closer look at the Windows Event Viewer. In these cases we need the corresponding log files from you.

Event Viewer Windows

  1. Open the Windows Event Viewer – for example, using the key combination [Windows]+ [R] and the command eventvwr.
  2. Double-click Windows Logs.
  3. Right-click Application and select Save All Events As …
  4. Save the event file (*.evtx) in any directory and send it to our support team (››› support@viflow.de).
(If the file is too large, we can provide you with an upload link.)

Event Viewer webserver

  1. Open the Windows Event Viewer - for example, using the key combination [Windows]+ [R] and the command eventvwr.
  2. Double-click Windows Logs.
  3. Click Application and under Actions click Filter current log {{1}}.
  4. Under Sources {{2}}, select DotNetRuntime and IISAspNetCore Module V2.
  5. Confirm with OK.
  6. Under Actions, click Save filtered log file as …, save the event file (*.evtx) in any directory and send it to our support team (››› support@viflow.de).
